Our Environment
We are all aware of the crucial importance of looking after our environment and managing
resources carefully to ensure a safe and sustainable future for us all.

Maintaining a small environmental footprint
Over the last decade Janet Clarke Hall has made significant steps in reducing its carbon footprint.
Some initiatives include:

• Solar hot water
• Use of a dripper system and garden mulching beds to save water
• Installation of water saving shower heads
• Use of energy saving lighting
• Outside clotheslines
• Water catchment and storage system in the garden
• Recycling initiatives within the student club
• College vegetable garden
• Joint Gaia composting system with Trinity College (hopefully functioning again early 2025)
• Installation of additional solar panels and battery storage
Please assist the College in its environmental awareness by switching off lights and appliances when
you leave your room, reducing food waste in the kitchen, utilising the paper and pink recycling bins
for recyclable goods, turning off taps in kitchens and bathrooms, keeping showers short, using the
outdoor washing lines when possible, avoiding turning on the heater unless necessary, and keeping
the kitchenettes clean and tidy.

endeavours, please speak to the 2025 Environment Coordinator.
