        College Facilities

        Our building
Janet Clarke Hall is a beautiful, heritage-listed building, and as such, is architecturally unique and
historically significant. Please be aware of, and ready to help with, the upkeep of corridors, common
rooms, gardens and other public spaces. The condition of the JCR, The Bage and the Rooftop
Courtyard are the particular responsibility of the Student Club.

        Maintenance
If you notice the need for something to be repaired, either in your room or elsewhere, please make
a note for the Facilities Manager, Michael. You can log issues via the online form, QR code in the
front foyer or by emailing facilities@jch.unimelb.edu.au.

        Tutorial rooms
When not otherwise occupied, tutorial rooms including Henderson House may be used by students
        as quiet study spaces. These spaces are common rooms for all students and must be shared equally;
therefore, your belongings must be removed when you are not using the space. The same rules
apply to the Library. If you are taking part in any online classes, it is best to use a more private
location (i.e., your bedroom) to avoid disturbing other students. Drinks, but not food, are allowed in
the tutorial rooms and the Library.

        Computer facilities

The College has four public computers for student use. These computers are located in the Library.
These and other IT facilities are administered and maintained by the College’s IT support providers,
Spirit. As with all aspects of the College, you are expected to treat these resources respectfully.
Please do not remove the computers or any of their equipment from the Library. Due to the age of
the College buildings, it is strongly recommended you use a surge protector for all IT & electrical
equipment in your room. You are responsible for maintaining your IT equipment and keeping it safe.
Please do not leave your items, especially laptops, unattended in tutorial rooms for security reasons.

        Printing
There is a photocopier for your use in the Library. The charge is 10 cents for every black and white
page and 40 cents for any size colour page. Your photocopying and printing will be charged to
your account at the end of each semester.

        The Bage
The Bage is a separate common room that is generally used for reading and watching television. It
is also a place where students can go in the evenings to have conversations so as not to disturb
other students trying to study or sleep. Please keep in mind that students and staff live adjacent to
and above the Bage, and noise levels must be respectful so as not to disturb others in the College
community. The Verdon Library Literature Collection is located in the Bage. There are some
wonderful books here; please read them. We have popular fiction as well as the classics.

        The Library
The Library (also referred to as the Verdon Library or Reading Room) on the Ground Floor is the
College’s designated quiet room for study. Please be conscious of not disturbing others in the Library
        – if you want to have an extended chat with someone, please do so outside.
