        Music rooms
While there are several spaces in which to practice music around the College, our music (and
musical) students will need to cooperate to ensure equity in terms of shared spaces and impact on
others. If a student wishes to practice in their room, this must be done with the agreement of their
neighbours (including those above and below) and at sensible times to minimise any disruption.

There is a (relatively) soundproof practice room in G11 (available between 8am and 11pm). If you
wish to practice there, you can collect a music room key from the College Office. Please be aware
of the students who live next door to and above the practice rooms, especially during SwotVac
and Exams. The practice spaces are available through a booking system under the overall
guidance of the Dean of Studies (Bee Ellis) and our Resident Tutor (Music), Jack Tan.

There is an additional baby grand piano donated by College Fellow, Ms Jaan Enden, which is
available for practise by music students in Henderson House Tutorial Room 2, and a piano in Tutorial
Room 4 donated by College Fellow, Ms Penny Lewisohn. Please be mindful that Henderson House
is predominately used as a teaching space from Mon-Thurs 5:15pm–9:30pm. Outside of those times
it is a multi-functional facility and may be used for private study, meetings, music practice and
events. It is important that all students communicate respectfully with each other regarding the use
of these spaces and no particular group takes priority over the other on an ongoing basis.

The grand piano in the Dining Hall, which was donated to the college by Dame Elisabeth Murdoch,
is only used for concert purposes. If you wish to practice for a performance, please ask the Office
or Duty Tutor to unlock it.

Please note that no private tutorials (music, sporting, or academic) are to be conducted using
College facilities. Music students are encouraged to make full use of the University practice space
booking facilities at the Conservatorium (Parkville) and Southbank Campus.
