Page 109 - Fallen Thoughts
P. 109
Eventually, Lucas found the two of us and attempted to bring us back to Dr.
Taylor and he almost succeeded. I ended up breaking Lucas’s brainwashing when
I was willing to sacrifice myself to let Elaine be free. I guess he felt compassion
for once and it broke him.
From there he started Deviants and something changed in me. I didn’t care
just about myself and my sister anymore. I cared about my new family, I cared
about my future, I cared about the world. Lucas gave me purpose again and I was
alive for once. This feeling affected everything about me, I was smiling, I was
falling in love with Lucas and I was getting stronger. Elaine could still beat me
every time we fought but it was getting harder and harder for her. Perhaps now we
are finally evenly matched and it’s only a matter of time I’ll be able to beat her
once and for all.
The match between Elaine and I is rendered a tie as Alex begins to fall
asleep and the other Deviants don’t bother watching. Elaine starts giggling as we
both instantly lie down on the mat exhausted.
“Well, that was fun, but I thought we’d be going on our mission by now.”
Elaine begins.
“Don’t jinx it, that would be cliché-” I stammer back right as the ear piece
I’ve been wearing begins talking to me and my wrist vibrates.
I look around and everyone seems to be hearing the voice as well.
“Excuse me Deviants, we are beginning transportation to the rendezvous
point. Please make your way to hanger 723 for pick up.” The voice states and then
repeats itself again.
I look down at my still buzzing watch and a blue light has begun blinking in
the all black screen. I press it and an image of a woman with dark hair and dark
skin appears repeating the same line over and over again.
“That’s pretty cool” I state.
