“Oh my, God, please don't die Elaine.”

                       “Aww, you care about me.”

“Yes asshole, I do care about you.”

I back away from Elaine and stand near Helena, who gives the order to set

off the nearest bomb, which should cause a chain reaction. If the bombs go off

correctly these mutated people should be disabled or flee. Elaine raises her hand to

cast a flame but stops abruptly.

                       “No!” She cries.

                       “What’s going on?!” Helena inquires.

“They’ve upturned one of the bombs” Elaine quakes and begins running

towards it, “The grid won’t work!”

I begin trying to run after her but Helena stops me.

“The mission is the most important part Kim, she’ll be okay.”

I walk over to the edge of my shield and watch Elaine take down everything

in her path. She grabs the bomb and tries to place it in position but she’s getting

over run by mutants. There's nothing I can do before she ignites her hand setting

off the electricity grid while she holds it.

Once the dust settles I burst out of my shield running after her. Just like

Helena expected, they are all unconscious from the shock. My mind races as I

reach Elaine. Could she survive being that close to a bomb, she was holding it,

what if it was too much? I tell myself to get a grip and to stop freaking out. I can’t

have my father getting in my head during a time like this.

Her eyes are still open and she’s breathing but it’s rough and uneven.
“Elaine!” I bawl “Stay with me Elaine, stay with me!”

Elaine touches my face trying to say something but her arm falls down and
               she closes her eyes.
