Driving in France, continued from page 33
at the top of the tower. From here, high above the carpark and ringed by stone battlements on all sides,
dark mountains could be seen marching into the hazy distance on every side. What a view.
Far below, the narrow ribbon of roadway hugged the curves of the ancient river, winding its way from
from the relics of the past in one direction to a modern jetport in the other. Tomorrow I would turn in my
Eurocar and fly back to the USA. 'Fine invention', I think-- the motorcar. It?s been fun.
Viva la France!
A couple of months after I got back to the states, an un-looked-for letter, with a French postmark, came in
the mail. It seems the gendarmerie has installed quite a few traffic cameras along the rural highways of

citation, for doing 147 in a 90, along with a bill for 465 Euros.
