Jesus, The Source of Grace
He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for
Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.”
First, grace is available to “all men”. Second, grace is
available to bring “salvation” – repentance, renewal,
reconciliation, and revival – that makes one amenable to the
things of God. Until this “salvation” happens, man is
intrinsically a rebel, renegade evildoer and repugnant
sinner before God. It’s the natural state of all humans at
birth into the world.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of
God” (Romans 3:23, also see Psalm 14:1-3;
Isaiah 53:6; 64:6).
Grace, having brought salvation, as Paul further states,
begins to teach the converted and born again person – the
renewed and saved believer – the appropriate conducts of
God’s children, God’s people, and heaven’s citizens.
“...teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts,
we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present
age.” The divine enablement to deny “ungodliness and
worldly lusts,” the divine enablement to “live soberly,
righteously, and godly in the present age,” is part of what is
called the workings of grace.
The Workings of Grace
When God’s grace is deployed into the life of a person
things begin to operate on a different, distinctive level. The
