In Step 1 we’re going to take a hard look at the actual knowledge,

skills, and abilities (called KSA’s) you have now, and what you’re
learning in school or on the job. What kind of job can you get right
now? What experiences have you had that can help you as a dieti-
tian? You’d be surprised to know how many skills you do have
because we’re not just talking about the jobs you’ve had or the
classes you’ve taken. You’re going to really inventory your skills:
from volunteer service, activities, hobbies, and interests, to the
leadership, time management, negotiation or speaking skills you
don’t always learn on the job or in the classroom. Next, you’ll look at
the field of dietetics, identify your ideal job, and compare your cur-
rent skills to your target position, and identify the gaps. You’ll look at
what you need, and then make a plan for reaching your goals.
Why Do We Care So Much About Skills?
Your skills and abilities are your ticket to get-
ting a dietetic internship and a job. Employers Your skills
are looking for people who have the skills and abilities
needed to do the job, but they expect you to are your
