A Case Report: Aural Hematoma Surgical Management In Domestic Cat With Silastic Tubing
Technique
Andhika Yudha Prawira
Abstract
Aural hematoma is a pathological condition with blood accumulation between skin and cartilage in the ear auricular
(pinna). Aural hematoma is a common disease of the pinna in dogs and rarely in cats. This study reported an aural
hematoma case in a cat with the treatment of surgical action using the Silastic tubing technique. A cat named Peang
was reported to have a bulge on its right pinna. The physical and microscopic examination results exhibited that the
cat was diagnosed with acute aural hematoma without ectoparasites infestation. In addition, the hematology
analysis revealed a high granulocyte and low MCH and MCHC. The surgery was performed to carry out the blood
from the pinna and placed the silastic tube inside the pinna to help drain the excess blood. The result of the tubing
was successful, with blood being drained out periodically. Postoperative care was done by flushing and injection of
ampicillin in the silastic tube. The healing showed good progress in 8 days, with the pinna in erect form and the
animal in good condition.
