1. Linamarin
Linamarin is a cyanogenic glucoside found in Linseed (linum sativum)
Family: Linaceae. It is a glucoside of acetone cyanohydrin.
Linamarin is hydrolysed by the action of an endogenous enzyme,
linamarinase, to yield glucose and acetone cyanohydrin. .
2. Amygdalin, Prunasin, Prulaurasin and Sambunigrin
Mandelonitrile glycoside is a simple aromatic cyanogenic glycoside.
Chemically, mandelonitrile is the nitrile of mandelic acid, or the
cyanohydrin derivative of benzaldehyde.
Mandelonitrile aglycone occurs insome cyanogenic glycosides as
amygdalin, prunasin, prulaurasin and sambunigrin. They allupon
hydrolysis yield benzaldehyde and the toxic cyanide anion by the action
of a beta-glucosidase.
Amygdalin
Amygdalin is classified as a cyanogenic glycoside obtained from almond
seeds (Prunus amygdalus) Family: Rosaceae. Amygdalin is a D-
mandelonitrile gentiobioside, where gentiobiose consists of two
molecules of β-glucose linked by 1, 6-linkage.
