                                                ES'tABLISBDG  MEALTIME  PROCEDURES
                           Sect1oo.  1.
                          Under  normal  conditions  a  City  employee  shall be  entitled  to  tiule  off  to  eat
                          during  each  work  shift to  be  scheduled  by  the  immediate  supervisor.  One  hour
                          meal  breaks  are  normally  associated with  employees  working  a  nine  hour  period.
                          five  days  per  week,  with the  hour  taken  as  unpaid  tittle.  Because  of  the  varied
                           shifts  and  needs,  lengths  of  mealtiule  JDaY  vary  within  departments  of  the  City.
                          Section.  2.
                          Where  scheduling  problems  exist,  or  emergencies  arise,  employees  lllllY  be
                          required  to  take  meals  at  their work  station  or  site.  Such  mealt:lma  would  be
                          considered  as  time  worKed.  Supervisors  may  require  employees  to  take  meals
                          while  on  duty  for  emergency  reasons,  Any  permanent  policy  of  requiring an
                          employee,  or  a  group  of  employees,  to  take  meals  while  on  duty  will require
                          the  approval  of  the  department  head,  Employees  who  are  paid  for  meal  breaks
                          are  subject  to  illllllBdiate  call back  to  work  if such  conditions  dictate.
                          Section  3.

                          As  with  relief  period  breaks,  scheduled  mealtime  that  the  employee  elects  not
                          to  take  cannot  be  accumulated  for  other purposes  such  as  vacation,
                          cbmpensatory  time  off,  or  as  a  means  of  leaving  the  job  early.
