Triumph A Saturday in San Diego

By Diana Nackley By Jessica Petrencsik

As I stare at my reflection I like the way you look
And think of the rejection when you stand up from whatever you’ve been
The hurt, the blame, the pain bending over
The self-doubts that still remain pouring over
I stand in utter silence leaning over
Survivor of the violence (a car, a book, a game of cards)
Refusing to surrender And step back, body free
Yet, trying to remember mind still tangled in complexity
That I am the sum of all my stories And push your fingers through the hair
A woman in all her glory now ebbing from your brow
Capable, talented, and strong And rest your hands upon both hips
And yet, I’ve known this all along intent to
My triumph is my song fix it
                                                                     solve it
                                                                     win it
                                                                         and
I like the way you look
                                                                  when you look like that.
