2.3.3 SYSTEM OPPORTUNITIES
SYSTEM DEMANDS
The primary water uses in the building are:
• Commercial kitchen use
• Toilet flushing
• Lavatories
• Kitchen sinks
• Irrigation of roof farming
There are no cooling towers factored in to for the water balance analysis as those HVAC options have been eliminated from
consideration.
Based on the initial water balance analysis, the biggest water demands in the project are going to be toilet flushing and the
commercial kitchen. These end uses are where the greatest opportunities to achieve potable water savings will be.
Irrigation represents a relatively small portion of the overall water demand. The irrigation needs are to provide water for the roof
garden and potential planters at the terrace level. It is also the only project end use that will vary seasonably with highest demand
in the summer where the evapotranspiration rate outstrips the availability of rainfall. Built Ecology will update the water demand
estimation based on a better understanding of the water intensity of the plants on the roof and any other landscaping that may
exist.
