Chapter 5 No Boot
5.1 No Boot-FF/00
POST Codes are hexadecimal codes generated by the BIOS during the POST
operation. These codes may be monitored via a special hardware "POST card" which
displays them using a two digit alphanumeric display to descript the system status.
FF or 00 (No Boot)
- The post code FF could be the first and the last code of boot up. If at the beginning, it
means unable to read the BIOS and no boot. If at the end, it means BIOS boot up ready
and start to boot up to OS.
-Going to hand over the control to INT 19H boot loader.
-PCIRST# ok, but chipset or bus is not ready to work
The Investigation step of debug card post FF or 00:
01. Wrong BIOS or CMOS settings
02. Reset signal fail: – CPURST
03. The bus is not ready: FSB/HT, PCI bus, LPC bus, SPI bus
04. The chipset voltage is not correct: VCC3_DAC, GTLREF, VTT_GMCH,
05. The interrupt or other signal fail: HINIT, SMI, STPCLK,
Before the next step, make sure all the testing equipments are in good status. The step
below is suggestion, you don’t need to check step by step, but all signals must be
confirmed.
