T              hen Otto and I decided to get married April

                                                                                                  12 , on a Thursday, 1917.

                                                                                                  Hazel had taken sewing, so she made my

                                                                                                  wedding dress it was white satin and over-
                                                                                    lace. Then I had her make me a dress also which color was

                                                                                    dark green with overlace. I wore white satin slippers and a

                                                                                    white hat. We were married at Dighton, Kansas (against
                                                                                    my parent’s will) on a bright sun shine day. We’d had a

                                                                                    rain the night before and the roads were somewhat mud-
                                                                                    dy that morning but were good on the way home. Bill and

                                                                                    Blanche took us, so were our witness. We stopped a short

                                                                                    distance from Dighton to visit Otto’s cousins (Dee Holmes
                                                                                    and family), first time I had met them. We arrived at Otto’s

                                                                                    folks around 6 or 6:30 p.m. His mother prepared a won-
                                                                                    derful dinner and Otto’s folks were all there to greet us. We

                                                                                    had dinner over and soon cars began to drive in from both

                                                                                    directions. We really got an old time shivery. Over 50 peo-
                                                                                    ple were there. I was sure tired that night.


                                                                                    The next day was dark and dreary. Otto had to work today

                                                                                    while I got acquainted with my new in-laws. They were all
