Export Promotion
Export promotion is important to the firm and to the economy as a
whole. Government measures aim, normally at the general improvement
of the export performance of the nation for the general benefit of the
economy. There are widely employed strategies for promoting export. The
objectives of these activities are to increase the profitability of export
business. A first time exporter who has already entered the international
market and is now planning to expand, his market base needs to be
advised on selecting those foreign markets where one can derive optimum
market opportunity. However, the established exporters consistently
attempt to explore ways to improve their international marketing operations
and need to be assisted by way of trade fairs, buyer-seller meets and
market promotion programmes. The export promotion programmes initiated
by the government are in the form of public policy measures, which focus
on enhancing the export activities at the company, industry or national
level. The functions of export promotion programmes are:
(i) To create awareness about exporting as an instrument of growth
and market expansion.
(ii) To reduce and remove barriers to exporting.
