Dead Son Raised
It came to pass as he was going to a city called Nain. His apostils and followers
were with him. When they came near the gate of the city he saw men carrying a
casket out from the city. In the caskets was the dead son of a widow. The people
of the city who followed were weeping. When Jesus saw, the mother weeping he
had compassion on her and said to her weep not. Then he went and touched the
casket and those who carried it stood still. He said young man I tell you arise. His
spirit returned and the dead son sat up and began to speak. Jesus followers
helped him out of the casket and they gave him to his mother. All men were
seized with amazement. His followers praised God saying a great prophet is
raised among us. God has visited his people. This wonder spread by word in the
City of Nain and throughout the land of Galilee.
Arrest of John
Herod the Tetrarch sent out officers and had John arrested, bound and cast him
into prison. Herod was rebuked by John concerning Herodias wife of Philip his
brother who he had married. He was also rebuked by John because of all the evil
issues he was doing. John had said to Herod it is not lawful for you to marry your
brother’s wife. Herodias was bitter towards him and wanted to kill him but she
could not. Herod was afraid of John because he knew that he was a righteous
holy man. The people accepted him as a prophet. Herod had him guarded.
John in Prison
While John was in prison he heard of the works of Christ. John called two of his
followers and sent them to Jesus with a message from him. He said the Jewish
Elders, High Priests and scribes are saying that there is another who is to come?
They came to Jesus and said to him John the Baptist has sent us to you saying
the Jewish leaders are saying there is another who is to come. We have been
told by him that you are the one who is to come? In that very hour, he healed a
great many people of their diseases, plagues and cast out the evil spirited. He
gave sight to the blind men; the lame walk; the lepers were cleansed; the deaf
hear; the dead rise up and the poor were given hope. Jesus said go describe to
John everything that you have seen and heard. The blind see; the lame walk; the
lepers are cleansed; the deaf hear; the dead rise up and the poor are given hope.
Blessed is he who does not stumble on account of me. When John’s followers
had gone, Jesus began to speak to the people concerning John. What did you go
out to the wilderness to see? A reed which is shaken by the wind? If not what did
you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Those who wear fine clothes
