• Maintains daily written patrol shift logs that include time, location, and content information
on public contacts, problems encountered, wildlife and unusual plant sightings, resource
damage, and so on;
• Assists with and performs wildland fire suppression and fire management tasks to include
assessment, suppression, incident command, and coordination with other agencies, if
previously qualified; and
• Conducts back country hiking patrols, including wildlife closure areas and climbing areas;
monitors recreational activities on OSMP properties, and uses education and enforcement
methods to ensure visitor safety and resource protection.
2. Preparing and delivering environmental education and interpretive programs to support the
OSMP Department’s public education and outreach activities:
• Develops and conducts environmental education programs for the general public, to include
nature walks and hikes.
3. Assisting with facilities maintenance on OSMP properties:
• Continuously inspects properties for hazards, unsafe conditions, or damage; corrects or
reports problems to maintenance and/or construction staff;
• Repairs and constructs fences and signs to address immediate needs; provides input to
maintenance and/or construction staff on less urgent needs; and
• Assists with trash collection and litter control.
4. Other:
• Performs related duties as required to meet the city’s needs;
• Takes proper safety precautions to prevent accidents. Responsible for the safety of self,
others, materials, and equipment. Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety
regulations, policies, and procedures. Reports all accidents and damage to city property; and
• Knows and complies with all city and department policies, participates in professional
training and development, and adheres to attendance and workplace attire policies.
Ranger/Outreach Intern
Overall Job Objective
Assist the ranger group with community rangering activities, seasonal raptor monitoring, patrol
monitoring, research on new uniform policy, and visitor use patterns. Also assist with inventorying
equipment and with projects such as restoration and property clean-ups. Serves as support staff to
educate the public about OSMP Department policies and programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Responsible for knowing and complying with all city and department policies and adhering
to attendance and workplace attire policies;
• Assist rangers in implementing infrastructure and education concerning the raptor-
monitoring program; assist with monitoring raptor sites;
• Assist rangers in monitoring patrol areas of low compliance. Uses game cameras to help
gauge areas of concern;
