3. Performing natural resource preservation and protection tasks on OSMP properties:
• Monitors conditions and takes appropriate action when use patterns and events on OSMP
properties create a threat or hazard to natural resources; provides information to and
collaborates with resource conservation and/or resource operations staff to develop strategic
work plans in response to field conditions; and,
• Assists with developing and implementing field research or monitoring programs such as
deer, waterfowl, and predator surveys; may assist with visitor use surveys and re-vegetation
projects.
4. Assisting with facilities maintenance on OSMP properties:
• Continuously inspects properties for hazards, unsafe conditions, or damage; corrects or
reports problems to maintenance and/or construction staff;
• Repairs and constructs fences and signs to address immediate needs; provides input to
maintenance and/or construction staff on less urgent needs; and
• Assists with trash collection and litter control.
5. Other:
• Performs related duties as required to meet the city’s needs;
• Takes proper safety precautions to prevent accidents. Responsible for the safety of self,
others, materials, and equipment. Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety
regulations, policies, and procedures. Reports all accidents and damage to city properties; and
• Knows and complies with all city and department policies, participates in professional
training and development, and adheres to attendance and workplace attire policies.
Seasonal (Temporary) Ranger/Naturalist
Overall Job Objective:
To perform patrol, natural resources management, interpretive visitor education and outreach, use
management, and code enforcement tasks on OSMP properties; to prepare and deliver
environmental education programs; and to perform related duties as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Position requires variable hours and work days, Friday to Monday, with occasional overtime and
holidays, and includes:
1. Performing patrol, code enforcement, visitor education and outreach, resource protection, and
interpretive tasks on OSMP properties:
• Interacts with the public while on duty to provide information on natural history,
management policies, and visitor opportunities;
• Monitors properties and responds as needed to illegal activity, unsafe conditions, visitor aid,
and range management needs; issues tickets or warnings for OSMP regulations violations;
and performs minor repairs or summons help to remedy unsafe field conditions or range
management problems that need immediate attention;
