1. Assisting the ranger/naturalist operations supervisor with day-to-day direction, prioritization,
and problem solving for the efficient and effective delivery of ranger/naturalist services:
• Models a collaborative and cooperative approach to service delivery; conducts activities that
support a team approach among ranger/naturalists, including supporting and assisting with
conflict resolution as needed;
• Provides input to the ranger/naturalist operations supervisor for ranger/naturalists’
evaluations, selection, and performance management; provides regular, ongoing feedback to
ranger/naturalists on job performance and team functioning;
• Serves as the field training officer, ensuring ranger/naturalist staff are trained and skilled in
all aspects of job performance, making recommendations for more extensive individual or
group training as needed, and maintaining training and certification activities records; and
• Assisting with daily management of ranger/naturalist work group tasks in the operations
supervisor’s absence.
2. Performing patrol, code enforcement, visitor education and outreach, resource protection, and
interpretive tasks on OSMP properties:
• Monitors properties and responds as needed to illegal activities, unsafe conditions, visitor
aid, and range management needs; issues tickets and warnings for OSMP regulations
violations; and performs minor repairs or summons help to remedy unsafe field conditions
or range management problems that need immediate attention;
• Interacts with the public while on duty to provide information on natural history,
management policies, and visitor opportunities;
• Assists with law enforcement activities, search and rescue, and wildlife incidents; possibly
coordinates emergency response aid, including administering first aid;
• Assists with and performs wildland fire suppression and fire management tasks, including
assessment, suppression, incident command, and coordination with other agencies; and
• Performs on-call standby duties and conducts evening and night patrols as needed.
3. Maintaining all required qualifications including Colorado Peace Officer Standards and
Training (POST), Emergency First Responder, and National Wildfire Coordinating Group
(NWCG) Wildland Firefighter Type II or higher. Performs all duties and tasks required of the
ranger/naturalist position;
4. Preparing and delivering environmental education and interpretive programs to support the
OSMP Department’s public education and outreach activities;
5. Performing natural resource preservation and protection tasks on OSMP properties;
6. Assisting with facilities maintenance on OSMP properties; and
7. Other responsibilities:
• Performs related duties required to meet the city’s needs;
• Takes proper safety precautions to prevent accidents. Responsible for the safety of self,
others, materials, and equipment. Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety
regulations, policies, and procedures. Reports all accidents and damage to city property; and
