‘Thanks Oliver. Does the name Gabriela Del Rosario Morales ring any bells?’

            ‘Afraid not.’

            ‘How about Arnold Warner?’

            ‘No. Who are they?’

            ‘They are Russian agents also.’

            ‘Are they in London?’

‘The girl was. She tried to poison me with the intention of torturing me and I presume she has now

been whisked back to Moscow. The guy is in New York but some friends are keeping an eye on him
            for me.’

            ‘Are they linked to Mex?’

‘Very much so. Arnold Warner is who Mex transferred the money to and Gabriela Morales is a
pathological killer who Mex used to torture people and to kill, along with others, my wife. The

report that her car blew up as a result of a petrol leak was a cover up.’

Oliver sat silent for a while and then closed his eyes and muttered ‘Fuck! I am so sorry; I see what
you mean about close to home.’

We sat silent for a moment.

‘We cannot really tell the Feds any of this, they would be very upset that we have ignored their
request to stay clear and there is no point telling my people either, they wouldn’t be able to use the
information for that same reason. What can we do, how can I help? Tell me, if Mex was arrested
and then swapped with one of ours and sent back to Moscow, would that satisfy you, would that be
            enough retribution for you?’

‘Frankly no, even if I could prove he was a murderer the Russian Embassy would get him released

pronto just as they did Gabriela Morales. He will get away scot free.’

Tom came to take away our dirty dishes.

‘Hope everything was satisfactory gentlemen, would you like to try my wife’s treacle pudding now?’

‘No thank you Tom but please tell Wilhelmina her liver and onions is the best in the world.’

Tom went off chuckling to himself.

‘Any idea what happened to the money?’ Oliver asked.

I sat awhile thinking and didn’t answer.
