However, those who are able to spit out the mucus should do so.What is the ruling if a person unintentionally vomits and then some of that vomit gets unintentionally swallowed? What if a person with acid reflux swallows back the acid? These things do not invalidate the fast because it is beyond a person%u2019s control. What is the ruling if a person breathes in a very strong smell, whether it's a nice scent such as a perfume or an unpleasant smell such as chemicals or tar from the paving of a road? This does not invalidate the fast except if it is the smell of bakhoor. Bakhoor is a scent made out of the burning of wood sticks and the smoke that results from it is not like other smoke; it has a more physical property because it contains oil from the trees and it invalidates the fast when breathed in and swallowed.Copyright %u00a9 2023 Islamic Association of Raleigh.
