TRS Retirement: The required contribution to the Teacher Retirement System of Texas in
accordance with applicable law and rules.
Every deduction from your paycheck is explained on your paycheck stub. If you do not understand
the deductions, ask your immediate supervisor or the District Office to explain them to you. You
may change the number of withholding allowances you wish to claim for Federal Income Tax
purposes at any time by filling out a new W-4 form and submitting it to The Lawson Academy’s
District Office.
All Federal and Social Security taxes will be automatically deducted from paychecks. The Federal
Withholding Tax deduction is determined by the employee’s W-4 form, which should be
completed upon hire. It is the employee’s responsibility to fill out a new W-4 form if his/her filing
status changes.
At the end of the calendar year, a “withholding statement” (W-2) will be prepared and forwarded
to each employee for use in preparation of income tax returns. The W-2 shows total wages, taxes
withheld, and certain benefit information.
The Lawson Academy offers programs and benefits beyond those required by law. Employees
who wish to participate in these programs may voluntarily authorize deductions from their
paychecks.
Personal Phone Calls and Personal Business
If you need to leave the worksite to conduct personal business, you must first obtain permission
from the Principal. This will allow us to make modifications to the work schedule if necessary
and will keep us aware of your activities during the day. If possible, please refrain from
scheduling appointments during the instructional day. Refrain from personal cell phone use
during instruction.
Special Student Note: Policy prohibits students from using cell phones during the school day,
except in an emergency. Please inform students of this policy and strictly reinforce it. Student
cell phones will be picked up in the morning and returned before school dismissal. A $15.00 cell
phone return fee will be imposed if a student is caught with a cell phone during the instructional
day. (Due to the nature of the online learning environment, the cell phone policy is not
enforceable).
Planning Period
The planning period is designed to permit the teacher an opportunity to prepare for classes and to
confer with students, parents and colleagues. It is very important that the planning period be used
and not wasted. Educators are being held more accountable every year. Make good use of your
