Throughout this entire process, parent communication is a must! No discipline form should come
to the office without first having contacted the parent. The only exception to this rule is violence,
sexual misconduct, or other severe misbehavior. Use your common sense and remember, every
time you send a student to the principal; it could lessen your effectiveness in the student’s eyes.

Each teacher is expected to effectively manage his/her classroom based on the teacher appraisal
and development system. Students should clearly demonstrate an understanding of the behavioral
expectation and require little or no redirections from teachers, leading to academic success.

Teachers should have the following posted:

                   • School Mission Statement
                   • Classroom Vision Statement
                   • Classroom rules, rewards and consequences
                   • Go-Round Cup (Non-Negotiable)
                   • Classroom Managers Chart
                   • Student of the Month (Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies)
                   • Most Improved Students
                   • Workstation Management Chart
                   • Grading Scale
                   • Academic Goals for the Year

✓ Never underestimate the power of a well-planned and implemented instructional program. An
integral part of creating a caring community of learners is the overall atmosphere established
                   in the classroom.

✓ In an effort to achieve the goal of promoting good citizenship throughout the campus, the
following guidelines should be adhered to.

✓ Corporal punishment is prohibited. Do not push, shove or hit a student under any circumstance.
Management of student behavior must be fair, consistent and without provocation.

✓ Remember to discipline with dignity.

✓ As members of the Academy faculty and staff, we are all responsible for our students. Do not
hesitate to stop misbehavior whenever it occurs. Students must be taught to respect all staff.

✓ The hallway is an inappropriate setting to reprimand a student or to place a student that has
                   been disruptive in class.

✓ Teachers should never stand back and allow students to engage in fighting, allowing students
to fight is directly inciting violence and is grounds for termination of employment.
