readily visible and available on the teacher’s desk or work space. These plans may be reviewed
by the administrators during a walk-through observation and as scheduled.
Each lesson plan should contain content/objective, research-based instructional strategies,
instructional skills, product, assessment, cooperative learning, and technology. Accommodations
and modifications for special populations (special education, G/T, ELL, 504, etc.) should be
documented in your lesson plans. This may be done in a variety of ways--make it as easy as you
can. All classroom teachers who teach students who receive special education services are
required to submit copies of their lesson plans to the special education teachers on a weekly basis.
Thematic Units are utilized for depth and complexity concepts within curriculum organization and
cooperative learning groups. Inquiry/hands-on science and social studies activities and the use of
computers within the curriculum are strategies endorsed by The Lawson Academy. Learning is
facilitated with a wide variety of research-based instructional strategies (i.e. Internet, cooperative
learning, thematic units, etc.) Instruction is not solely textbook, or worksheet driven. Lesson
plans will be an integral part of your evaluation process.
Substitute Folder: Lesson plans during a teacher absence are especially critical. These need to
be more detailed and thorough than those prepared for the teacher. All teachers must have an
nd
emergency lesson plan folder in the principal’s office by the end of the 2 week of school a folder
containing the basic procedures for conducting class for 3 days. The substitute folder should
contain emergency lesson plans, attendance sheet, seating chart, classroom management
procedures, daily schedule, and any other items needed to effectively run your classroom in your
absence. After these have been checked off by the principal, you should store them in an
accessible, well-labeled place in your classroom. ( Virtual Substitute Folders are required and due
nd
the 2 week of school).
Section 504
Students who are eligible for special modifications under “Section 504” must be provided with
such modifications in their classrooms. It is not an option for the teacher to decide not to make
these modifications--it is required by law (Americans with Disability Act). A 504 meeting may
be called whenever it is felt that a change in the modifications is in order.
Snacks and Drinks
Food, snacks, juices or sodas are not allowed during instructional time. A bottle of water is
acceptable however the water ust be kept closed and stored in the student’s backpack.
Special Education
This is an area that is governed by an increasing number of state and federal regulations,
requirements, and laws. They must all be obeyed--no exceptions. Every student who receives
