Teachers are expected to help supervise students throughout the school. Besides maintaining
discipline in the classroom, teachers’ supervision duties include the hallways, restrooms,
assemblies, etc. Each staff member is responsible for helping prevent damage to school property
and preventing general misbehavior.
If you need to leave the room, please ask another teacher to cover for you. You are liable!
Supplies
A stock of standard supplies will be kept in the building. When specific supplies are needed for
special projects, please send a note home to parents notifying them of the need. Please remember
all notes home must be approved by the administration prior to distribution. If there is not enough
of a response, please see administration.
Television, Videos & Movies
Enrichment videos must:
1. Be documented in lesson plans.
2. Be related to curriculum studied in the classroom.
3. Be previewed by teacher for appropriateness of subject, grade level, developmental level
of students, and age of students.
4. Be an extension or reinforcement for culminating activities taught in the classroom.
Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS)
The State of Texas has a set of standards for curriculum and instruction. These are known as the
Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and they are provided for each of the main subject
areas taught in grades K - 12 in public schools in Texas. You must be familiar with the TEKS for
your grade level and make sure that you incorporate them into your lessons. If you do not have a
set of the TEKS, you may find them on the Texas Education Agency web site on the Internet.
Textbooks
The Lawson Academy will incorporate the use online Learning Management Systems to deliver
instruction in the virtual and or face to face environment. There will be restricted use of textbook
material and paper worksheets.
As part of in-person instruction, each teacher is responsible for keeping accurate student records
on the textbooks for their grade level. The teacher will handle all student checkouts in the
classroom. The teacher must keep an accurate and up-to-date record of which student has which
book throughout the school year.
Students and their parent(s) are responsible for a textbook if it has been documented by the teacher
