THE IMPORTANCE OF STREET TREES
In figure X.X shown above, street trees play a critical role for pedestrians and vehicles in a downtown setting. Street trees have many influences on both the physical and environmental aspects of the surrounding
area. Most importantly on a pedestrian scale, street trees create shade which is crucial when walking around downtown and spending time outdoors. Without the shade provided by the trees, the pedestrian
realm can become and uncomfortable walking zone, prohibiting visitors from spending more time downtown. From a vehicular standpoint, street trees with large canopies influence traffic calming, which makes
for a safer pedestrian experience.
