DOWNTOWN LAND USE
THE STUDY AREA
Land Use
Downtown Dover is comprised of various types of land uses within the
downtown development district. The northern half of the downtown
district is mostly composed of residential housing and includes the
downtown DSU campus, formerly known as Wesley University. The
"core" of downtown Dover is identified on the map as the intersection
of W. Loockerman Street and S. Governors Avenue. The downtown core
is mostly consisted of retail and restaurants with some public parking
lots within walking distance. The southeast portion of downtown Dover
is mostly historical government and municipal buildings. "The green",
located between Legislative Avenue and Federal Street is a historical
site, recognized as a National Park. This park is surrounded by many
historical buildings such as the Old State House - the former state
capitol building, built in 1791.
