a whole.
PROBLEMS AND OPPORTUNITIES OF UNEMPLOYED REGISTERED NURSES

The study discovered the seriousness of the problems encountered and the opportunities
of the unemployed Registered Nurses of Asingan and Urdaneta City, Pangasinan. The study
considered as well the attributes of the unemployed Registered Nurses in terms of age, sex,
civil status, Religion, monthly family income, and number of years unemployed. Similarly, the
significant relationship between the opportunities for the unemployed Registered Nurses and
their profile variables was established. Finally, basing from the findings of the study, measures
were suggested to address the problems of the unemployed Registered Nurses.
The study was conducted in Asingan and Urdaneta City, Pangasinan from August to
September 2013. Fifty (50) selected unemployed Registered Nurses served as respondents
from whom the data were gathered. The descriptive type of research was employed using the
questionnaire as the main data gathering tool. Statistical treatment like frequency, percentage,
weighted mean, and Pearson product-Moment Coefficient of Correlation were utilized in treating
the data gathered.
The findings of the study revealed that most of the unemployed registered nurses are
20-24 years old, majority are males who are single, commonly Roman Catholics with monthly
family income that range from P10,000 to P50,00 and above, and has been jobless for 1-4
years after graduation. The unemployed registered nurses encountered serious problems
along economic aspect; slightly serious problems along mental, psychological, and spiritual
aspects; and moderately serious problems along social aspect. The respondents practiced the
opportunities along economic, psychological, and social aspects; and moderately practiced those
along mental and spiritual aspects.
There is significant moderate high correlation between the age of the unemployed
registered nurses and the psychological opportunities they practiced and a significant moderate
low correlation between age of the unemployed registered nurses and the social opportunities
they practiced.
The researcher concluded that the unemployed registered nurses are young adults,
single male and female individuals who are Christ believers with monthly family income that is
enough to sustain the needs of the family members and has been unemployed for couple of
years. Severe economic problems were encountered by the unemployed registered nurses which
were caused by unstable economy brought about by the worldwide recession. The unemployed
registered nurses acquired all possible opportunities and applied them into practice which
relieved their burdens over unemployment. The profile on age influenced the practice of the
unemployed registered nurses on psychological and social opportunities. The identified problems
