along economic, mental, psychological, mental, social, and spiritual aspects can be addressed
through the measures suggested.
From the findings of the study, it is recommended that the local government should
consider designing a program which could help alleviate the problems of the unemployment
among registered nurses in the locality. The suggested measures should be put into practice to
address the problems encountered by the unemployed registered nurses along economic, mental,
psychological, social and spiritual aspects. The implementation of the suggested measures
should be assessed after a period of time in order to determine their level of effectiveness. Other
researchers can conduct research in line with the present study to validate the findings and
consider other aspects which were not covered.
COMPETENCIES OF NURSES IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM

This study determined the level of competence of nurses in the emergency room.
The study was conducted in selected hospitals in Pangasinan where staff nurses and head
nurses were the respondents. Specifically, it dealt on the profile variables of the respondents
that include the age, sex, civil status, and highest educational attainment, length of service and
relevant trainings and seminar attended, Problem Number 2 determined the level of competence
of nurses in the emergency room along safe and quality nursing care, management of resources
and environment, health education, legal responsibility, ethico-moral responsibility personal and
professional development, communication and collaboration and teamwork.
Problem Number 3 dealt on the significant difference in the perceptions of the
respondents on the level of competence of nurses in the Emergency Room. Finally, problem
number 4 and 5 dealt on the significant difference and relationship in the level of competence of
nurses in the Emergency Room across selected profile variables.
Descriptive method of research was used in the study using a questionnaire as the main
data gathering instrument, frequency distribution and percentage, weighted mean, t-test and
analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Chi-Square were utilized.
The following are the findings of the study based on the problems posed in the study.
Majority of the respondents are aged 21-25 years old, males, single, finished the bachelor’s
degree, 1-5 years in service with the basic life support as the most training attended. On the
level of competence of the staff nurse, area on collaboration and teamwork was the highest
for them whereas form evaluation of the nurses, the area on management of resources and
environment was given the highest priority. Overall, collaboration and teamwork received the
highest rating. No significant difference exists between the ratings given by the staff nurses as
compared to the evaluations made by the head nurses. However, a significant difference exists
on legal responsible in terms of nurses’ attendance to training regarding Diabetes Education.
Also, attendance to Advanced Cardiac Life Supports training affects nurses’ level of competence
