The parents and patients demonstrated a judicious practice of the practices along the signs
and symptoms, causes, transmission, treatment, and prevention of acute gastroenteritis which
likewise recommend further health education. The problems encountered by the patients and
the parents were reasonable enough and were attended to using practical efforts; however they
still need a more extensive education regarding the signs and symptoms of acute gastroenteritis
in order to attain a highly satisfactory result. The intervention program was designed to hopefully
increase the level of awareness and improve the practices of the respondents in the management
of acute gastroenteritis.
On the recommendation, that the diverse profile of the parents and patients should be
considered by the members of the health team when conducting health education to facilitate
better acquisition of information relative to acute gastroenteritis. The members of the health
team should strengthen health education to increase the extent of awareness of the parents and
patients in the management of acute gastroenteritis.
MATERNAL EXPERIENCES OF PARENTING A CHILD WITH
DOWN SYNDROME: A CASE STUDY

This study determined the maternal experience of parenting a child with down
syndrome. It dealt on the profile of the respondents in terms of their age, civil status, highest
educational attainment, occupation, monthly family income, age of child with down syndrome
and number of children. It also focused on the maternal experience s of parenting a child with
down syndrome along physical emotional, socio-economic and spiritual. It dealt on the coping
strategies utilized by mothers in the care of their children.
Descriptive case study design was used in the study. Based on the data gathered, the
following are the salient findings. Majority of the respondents belonged to the age bracket of
36-40 and 46-50 years old; married; college graduate; housewife; with a monthly family income
of 5,000-10,000; age of the child with down syndrome at 6-10 years old and Roman catholic.
On the maternal experiences of mothers with down syndrome along the physical
aspect, most mothers delivered at later stage of their life mostly during their 40’s and do not
know anything about down syndrome. Along emotional aspect, most of the mother encountered
mixed emotions upon knowing the child’s condition. Eventually, mothers and family members
had accepted the disability of the child. Along socio-economic, majority of them belongs to
having an average income for the family’s needs. Budget for the child with down syndrome for
medical consultation is not allotted because of financial problems.
Along spiritual aspect, regardless of their status in life, all mothers regarded their
children as a normal child. All showed their caring attitude and concern for the child. They
prayed for the health and longer life of the children. On the coping strategies of the mothers,
they continue doing their usual daily routine to earn income for their family. Mothers had many
