mental, emotional, social and spiritual as shown in the overall weighted mean of 4.30 (3) The
respondents agree on the positive indicators of attitude and disagree on the negative attitudes;
(4) Physical, mental, and emotional aspects of elderly care are always applied to assist geriatric
patients while social and spiritually aspects of health care are often practiced; (5) Significant
difference exist between the extent of knowledge and extent of practices of the geriatic nurses
along physical nurses along physical aspect.
PRACTICES OF MOTHERS ON THE USE OF HERBAL PLANTS APPROVED BY
THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

This study dealt on the level of awareness of mothers on the use of DOH approved
herbal plants. Part I focused on the respondents’ profile in terms of their age, civil status,
number of children, highest educational attainment, monthly family income, occupation, and
religion. Part II dealt on the level of awareness of the mothers on the use of the DOH approved
herbal plants. Part III dealt on the extent of practices of mothers in the use of herbal plants
before, during and after administration. Part IV focused on the significant relationship between
the extent of mothers’ practices on the use of DOH approved herbal plant. Part V focused on the
problems encountered by the mothers in the use of herbal plants.
Based on the gathered data, the following are the findings of the study: Majority of the
mothers belong to the age bracket of 31-35 years old, married, with 1-2 number of children,
college graduate, with a monthly family income of 5,001-10,000, employed and mostly Roman
Catholic; On the level of awareness on the use of DOH approved herbal plants, mothers were
moderately aware on the therapeutic effects; On the extent of their practices before, during
and after administration, mothers practiced the use of DOH approved herbal plants; There
exists significant relationship on the profile variables age and occupation ; Most of the problems
identified were experienced by the mothers; A proposed program for the mothers is prepared.
Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions are offered:
The respondent-mothers were young adults, who had an average number of offspring
and finished their tertiary education, employed earning an average income who belong to the
dominant religion; Mothers knew the herbal plants but they do not know its purposes in treating
minor ailments; The respondents used some of the common DOH herbal plants however, there
are those that they do not know anything about the plant and never use it; Mothers differ in
their perceptions on the use of herbal plants; The proposed program is prepared based on the
findings of the study
Based on the findings and conclusions, the following recommendations are offered:
Mothers at their age must be oriented on the different DOH approved herbal plants so they can
use as an alternative treatment to minor ailments; They must be oriented on the DOH approved
herbal plant for them to be aware on their therapeutic effects; The rural health unit must
