sacrifices for the well-being of the child like in the house looking after the child.
Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions are hereby offered. Most
of the mothers are in their adulthood, professionals but decided to stop working to attend
to the needs of their children with down syndrome. All of the mothers were affected in their
experiences physically, emotionally, spiritually and socio-economically. Caring for the child is a
part of their daily life experience3s. It is their own child so mothers had to accept the reality that
they have a child with disability. Proposed activities can be formulated to improve the parenting
experiences of mothers.
Based on the conclusions of the study, the following are the recommendations. Women
particularly mothers must be aware on the possible cause of having down syndrome to lessen
its incidence. A health worker particularly the nurses and midwives must include information
dissemination on down syndrome during their mothers’ community assembles. Mothers must
learn to cope with the challenges in parenting a child with down syndrome. The proposed
activities can be adapted for implementation to improve the care given to children with down
syndrome or other children with disabilities.
