weighted mean is 3.78, for love and belongingness the average weighted mean is 4.46, along
self esteem the average weighted mean is 4.33, along the four different hierarchies of needs
the overall weighted mean is 4.12. (3) On the differences; basic needs, safety and security, love
and belongingness and self esteem cause a significant effect on psychological care among elders
with significance values of .000 which are all less than the 0.05 level of significance. (4) On
the relationship between the elders’ extent of psychological care across their profile variables:
Age has no significant relationship on basic needs but has significant relationship on safety and
security, love and belongingness and self esteem and has a significant relationship on the overall
extent of psychological care. Sex has no significant relationship on basic needs, safety and
security, love and belongingness and self esteem.
The following conclusions were drawn: (1) Majority of the respondents were 65-69
years old, females , were already married, able to reach high school level , were living with
their immediate family or so called nuclear and has 1,000 and below as their monthly income.
(2) There was an extensive psychological care among the elderly along basic needs, safety and
security, love and belongingness and self esteem. (3) There is a significant difference in the
extent of psychological care along basic needs, safety and security, love and belongingness
and self esteem. Thus the researcher’s hypothesis stating that there is no significant difference
in the extent of psychological care along the different hierarchy of needs is rejected. (4) On
the relationship of psychological care across their profile variables, age, highest educational
attainment, family structure and monthly income are related to the extent of psychological care
among elders.
The following are highly recommended: (1) every member of the household should
take part in caring for the older people, provide adequate support system and show respect
to the older people by recognizing their worth. (2) The relatives and significant others must
attend the needs of the elders especially the ones pertaining to their health. (3) Family members
must help the elders in preventing their illnesses and other health problems by enabling them
to have check-ups (4) Nurses and other health care providers must impart health teachings
that could improve their conditions. (5) Holistic care must be available to elders regardless
of their status whether they are rich or poor. (6) Assistive devices must also be available to
elders especially to those who need assistance in ambulation and in doing their activities of
daily living. (7) Government and other concerned groups must also help in the provision of free
wheelchairs, crutches and canes. (8) Family members must give an authority to our elders to
use their pensions and to care for their other properties. (9) Elders must also be secured by
providing them health and funeral insurance. (10) Every member of the household must always
ask the elders’ consent in touching o taking their things away. (11) Elders must also be given
considerations when they have done something wrong. (12) The older people should be praised
for their accomplishments to boost their self esteem. (13) The rights of the older people should
be highly respected and accorded to them. The government should also provide awareness
among the family members, stakeholders regarding these by conducting programs such as
seminars that would help the elderly. (14) The study’s findings can provide basis for designing
