COMPARATIVE STUDY OF TB-DOTS CASES

This study dealt on the comparable study of TB DOTS cases among cured and uncured
clients of the 21 barangays of San Quintin, Pangasinan. Specifically, it sought to determine the
medical conditions that contribute to the improvement of the cases that includes the history of
vaccination, diagnostic examinations done, treatment given and medications prescribed. It also
dealt on the practices and attitudes that complicate or alleviate the conditions along nutrition,
social living conditions, water supply and waste management practices, and the characteristic
features derived to describe those who are cured and those who are not.
Descriptive research design was used. A simple statistical tool like frequency and
percentage was used. Based on the data gathered, the following are the findings of the study:
1) Majority of the respondents were cured clients, with an age bracket of 41-50 years old, males
with a frequency, married, high school graduate, with a monthly family income of 5,000 pesos
and below, into a small scale business, with 3-4 children, Roman Catholic and 4-5 members of
the household.
On the practices and attitudes of the respondents, majority of them ate the three meals
with a simple viand of vegetables, sometimes meat or fish, lived in a house with light materials,
deep well as their source of water supply and burning as their waste management practice.
On the characteristics of those who were cured, they showed improvement in their body built,
improved appetite, had good night sleep and had showed positive attitude toward the treatment.
They graduated taking their anti TB medications without fail. The uncured still manifested the
signs of the disease although most of them were asymptomatic; they are capable of transmitting
the disease, carrier of the tubercle bacilli and had a negative attitude toward treatment. The
treatment failed because they did not complete the prescribed regimen.
Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions are hereby offered. Most
of the respondents had been free from their tuberculosis, adults, and males with families, did
not reached college, engaged in a small business with an average number of children, belongs
to the most dominated religion with average members of the household.
The respondents submitted for diagnostics and had completed the short course chemotherapy
without fail which contributed to their being healed with TB. Whereas, those uncured failed to
finish their treatment which led them manifesting the signs of TB and still have the disease.
The respondents lived a normal life, they owned their houses, had adequate water
supply however, they had insufficient nourishment necessary for daily body requirements. They
resort to dumping their garbage in pits in their backyards and practiced burning. Those who took
the recommended diagnostic evaluation and took their medications without fail were cured while
the uncured were not serious in taking their medications and diagnostic evaluations which led to
the failure of treatment.
Based on the conclusions, the following recommendations are offered. Adults
particularly those smokers must stop smoking and be aware on the effects of the nicotine to the
