       blood vessels and to the lungs. They must be aware of the causes and early signs of the disease
       for early prevention and treatment. Health care providers must strengthen their campaign in
       the prevention  of  TB  by  monitoring  their  clients  in  the health  center  or  at  home.  Instill  to
       the respondents and the community the importance of nutrition to increase body resistance
       thereby preventing the transmission of the disease. Remind the respondents on the importance
       of completing the treatment regimen to be cured of the communicable disease tuberculosis.



                 CHALLENGES AND MOTIVATIONAL FACTORS AFFECTING
                                RURAL HEALTH WORKERS

              This study explored on the challenges and motivational factors affecting rural health
       workers of Umingan Rural Health Units in Pangasinan. Specifically, the study sought to answer
       the questions on (a) the profile of the respondents in terms of age, sex, civil status, highest
       educational  attainment  length  of  service,  position  held,  and  relevant  trainings  attended  (b)
       challenges encountered by the respondents in the delivery of health care services motivational
       factors.
              It also inquired whether there is significant diefference in the challenges encountered
       and motivational factors of the respondents across the profile varaibles.
              The study employed the descriptive methods of research. The respondents of the
       study were the health workers in Umingan Rural Health Units 1 and 2 which consist of twenty
       (20) in RHU-1 and twelve (12) in RHU 2 of the said municipality. The respondents represent a
       complete enumeration of the RHW in the said municpality. The collected data were processed
       using statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) v. 17. Statistical tools emploeyd includes
       frequency counts, percentages, average weighted mean, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)
              Findings of the study include: 1. The rural health workers of Umingan Pangasinan are
       mostly 21-50 years old (27 out of 30) who are mostly female (25 or 78.1 percent), married
       (21 or 65.6 percent) with Bachelor’s degree (31 or 96.9 percent) holding positions as nurse,
       midwives and administrative aides for years; 2. Most of the RHWs face most challenges when
       to profesisonal development (mean=3.26)/ This is followed by role fulfillment (mean=3.12) and
       financial support (mean=3.02). Least challenges are encountered by the respondents on social
       development (mean=2.20). The first three categories were described as sometimes encountered
       while latter is seldom encountered by the RHWs. The over-all weighted means is 2.90 which
       indicated  that  the  indetifies  challenges  are  sometimes  encountered  by  the  respondents;  3.
       Personal motivating factors recorded an average weighted mean 4.01 describe as often while
       professional motivstors have an average weighted mean is 2.82.
