MEDICAL RECORDS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

This study dealt on the status of medical records management system of Dr. Marcelo
Chan Memorial Hospital. Part 1 dealt on the profile of the respondents in terms of their age,
sex, civil status, highest educational attainment and length of service. Part II focused on the
status of medical records management system of the hospital as perceived by the employees
along efficiency, effectiveness and accuracy and promptness along records creation, records
maintenance and management, and records disposition.
Descriptive research design is used in the study. The statistical tools used in the study
are the frequency and percentage, weighted mean, ANOVA and t-test.
Based on the data gathered the following are the findings of the study: Majority of the
respondents belong to the age bracket of 21-25 years, males, single, with masteral units and
had been in the service for 1-3 years. On the status of medical records management system of
the hospital as perceived by the employees along efficiency revealed an overall weighted mean
of 4.91 or efficient. Along effectiveness it revealed an overall weighted mean of 4.80 or effective.
Along accuracy and promptness the overall weighted mean is 3.97 or accurate. On the significant
difference in the status of medical records management system of the hospital as perceived by
the employees across their profile variables, the result is not significant. A proposed program is
prepared based on the findings of the study.
Based on the findings of the study the following conclusions are the following: Most
of the respondents are in their young adulthood stage male dominated and employed to their
positions for few years and most of them are pursuing their higher level of learning in their field
of expertise. The employees perceived that they performed their medical records management
well based on the hospital policies and skills in the area of assignment. There is no difference
in the medical records management of employees regardless of their profile variables. The
proposed program is intended to improve the medical records management of employees.
Based on the conclusions, the following recommendations are offered: The respondents
must continue in pursuing their masteral degrees to improve their knowledge and skills at their
young age. They must also enhance their records management system for them to be more
efficient and effective. They must attend seminars and trainings for a more accurate manner
in records management. Employees must have equal opportunities for advancement in their
profession. The proposed program can be submitted to the management of the hospital for
approval, adaption and implementation.
Future studies can be done in a wider perspective.
