The following were the findings of the study :( 1) Majority of the midwives are diploma
holder, ages 40 and above, married and earning Php 15,001 – Php 20,000 a month and are
rendering their professional services for more than 10 years, trained with multiple seminars
attended, (2) The overall competencies of the midwives in the management of the third stage
of labor is interpreted as “competent”. In terms of attitude, midwives are highly competent in
managing the third stage of labor, however, the midwives are competent in terms of knowledge
and skills, (3) On the relationship of the competencies of the midwives in the management of
the third stage of labor across their profile variables, all but civil status and length of service
are related to their competencies, (4) some of the variables do not cause variations on their
competencies such as civil status and length of service , number of trainings and seminars
attended can cause a significant effect on the midwives’ competencies in managing the third
stage of labor, therefore, the null hypothesis stating that there is no significant difference between
the competencies of the midwives in the management of the third stage of labor across their
profile variables is rejected, (5) Based on the findings of the study, an enhancement program is
proposed.
The following conclusions were drawn: (1) Majority of the respondents are middle-aged
to late adults, who are married with a diploma in midwifery program, earning Php 15,000 to Php
20,000 who are currently practicing their profession for at least a decade, and have attended
multiple seminars which are related to the focus of the study.(2) Midwives are competent in the
management of the third stage of labor, highly competent in terms of attitude, competent, in
terms of knowledge and skills. (3) There is a relationship between the midwives’ competencies
in managing the third stage of labor and their profile variables, (4) Some of the profile variables
namely age, monthly income, and number of trainings and seminars attended, cause variation
with regards to the midwives’ competencies in the management of the third stage of labor.
Therefore, the null hypothesis stating that there is no significant difference between the
competencies of the midwives in the management of the third stage of labor across their profile
variables is rejected. (5) Based on the findings of this study, an enhancement program is
proposed.
As a result of the findings and conclusions drawn, the following are highly recommended:
(1) Midwives should be holistic - physically, mentally, and emotionally equipped to be competent
enough in their practice of their midwifery profession, (2) increase the competence of the
midwives in terms of knowledge and skills in managing the third stage of labor, health authorities
should introduce management protocols or guidelines in the active management of the third
stage of labor to standardize practice. (3) Strive to improve their competencies in managing the
third stage of labor by updating themselves through trainings and seminars. (4), reasonable
increment in their salary should be granted to give them motivation to perform their roles
effectively. (5) The enhancement program devised by the researcher should be adopted.
