A COMPREHENSIVERSITY SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL: A REGIONAL MODEL
MYRA P. LOCQUIAO
This study recommended a 5-year developmental plan to become a comprehensive-
university like Senior High School that will serve as a model school in Region I. With the use of
documentary analysis , review of records and documents of the school implementation plan for
senior high school and qualitative method of gathering data, this study sought to determine the
following: the profile of the school implementation plan of its academic tracks along instruction
functions in terms of School’s Current Curriculum; Teachers and Learners Materials; Facilities,
Equipment and ICT; Partnership; and Assessment; profile of the school implementation plan its
research functions in terms of research subjects offered; Teachers qualification; and Resources;
the implementation plan of the extension programs and services of the school including important
details; Finally, the study was concerned in coming up with a five year development plan based
on the needs of the senior high school leading to a model comprehensiversity senior high school.
The following are the findings based on the specific problems posed in this research
study: The implementation plan of the senior high school’s Academic Strands (HUMSS,ABM
and GAS) in terms of instruction showed a strong curriculum preparation that meets standard
time, number of weeks needed per semester and exceeds beyond basic core and applied track
subjects; however, teachers and learners materials was found with very low average weighted
mean which revealed a descriptive equivalent “NOT ADEQUATE”; Along facilities, equipment
and ICT were inadequate/insufficient; the partnerships/linkages with institutions/individual were
pre-determined but not yet established; finally, along assessment, the assessment tools were
not enough and needs to develop appropriate assessment tools for specific teaching strategy or
activity.
Based from the aforementioned findings, the following conclusions were drawn: The
school implementation plan along instruction was prepared based on DepEd standards and
guidelines and ready to be implemented. The research function/program of the school is not
that strong especially along the resources needed. The planned extension program projected
good plans but details of the program needs more specific identification. The proposed 5 year
development plan can be utilized to attain goals of the senior high school program.
Recommendations were as follows: The DepEd Urdaneta City Division should support
the Urdaneta City National High School in becoming a trailblazer for new programs in the
Senior High School. Trainings and seminar-workshops or brief sessions towards improvement of
instruction, research and extension may be made. The proposed 5 year development plan should
be considered to strengthen and sustain instruction, research and extension of the senior high
leading them into a comprehensiversity senior high school.
