                                     MEILANI IRMA F. SALES

This study determined the level of financial management competence of school
principals in the elementary and secondary levels of the different public schools in the Division of
Pangasinan II during SY 2015-2016. Specifically, this study sought to determine the following:
the profile of the respondents in terms of age, civil status, highest educational attainment,
position, relevant trainings attended, and personality type; the level of financial management
competence of school principals along MOOE, Special Education Fund, Students’ Legal
Contributions, Donations and Solicitations, Rentals of School Properties, Voluntary Contributions,
and Canteen Funds; the significant differences in the levels of financial management competence
of school principals across their profile variables; the significant relationships between the levels
of financial management competence of school principals and their profile variables; and 5) the
proposed financial management competence enhancement program that may contribute to the
            success of school administrators.
Based on the data gathered and analyzed, the following are the salient findings:
Majority of the respondents belong to the age bracket of 45 and above, married and attended
division, regional, national and international level trainings. Most of them earned Doctoral units,
occupy Principal III position and belong to the B+ personality type. On the level of financial
management competence of school principals, the overall weighted mean is 4.26 equivalent to
            “competent”.
Based on the findings, the following conclusions were drawn: The school principals are
competent enough to qualify them to be school administrators. There is room for the respondents
to enhance or upgrade their level of financial management competence, from competent to
highly competent. The highest level of financial management competence is in the aspect of
bodily-kinesthetic. The financial management competence of the school principals in students
legal contributions ranked number 1 among the 8 indicators. The proposed financial management
competence enhancement program adequately responds to the pinpointed concerns. .
Based on the findings and conclusions drawn, the following recommendations are
forwarded: All concerned prospective school principals must be encouraged to finish their
doctorate degrees. Financial management competence of school principals should be conducted
in other venues to validate the results of this study. Financial management competence should
be considered an important factor in rating the performance of school administrators and in the
promotion of prospective school administrators. The school principals should aspire for a higher
level of financial management competence. The proposed enhancement program should be
considered as a priority by the concerned Department of Education officials. Further research
may be conducted on financial management competence from another perspective.
