extent of implementation of the Child Friendly School Program.
RECOMMENDATIONS: 1) teachers are encouraged to pursue their graduate and post
graduate studies. 2) Training programs on the area of leadership and inclusive child management
should be designed, formulated, and implemented. 3) A proposed enhancement activities to
improve the CFSP must be carried out 4) Benchmarking from model institutions implementing
the program should be encouraged.
COLLEGE FRESHMEN’S ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

This study determined the level of English language proficiency of the college freshmen
students of Urdaneta City University. Specifically, it dealt with the profile of the college freshmen
students in terms of: age; sex; GPA in English Subjects; attitude towards studies; personality type;
previous trainings in language; previous activities in language; and preferred reading materials
which has a direct effect on their level of English proficiency. The descriptive-correlational
method of research was used. The data collected were tallied and organized in tabulated form.
The findings were interpreted and discussed. The statistics used were the frequency counts
mean, ANOVA, t-test and Pearson r Coefficient of Correlation.
Findings of the study are as follow: Majority of the freshmen belong to age 15-20
and are female. The grade point average (GPA) of the students during their First Year and
Second Year belong to the range of 80-84 having a percentage increasing to the range of 85-89
during their Third Year and the Fourth Year. Students have positive learning attitudes having a
personality type of ESTJ (Extrovert-Sensing-Thinking-Judging) having a percentage of 96 and 92
percent, respectively. Previous trainings of the students show that 42 percent among are trained
in Essay Writing. Face book post is the most preferred reading material as perceived by the
students. Only 29 out of the 50 students belong to the Emergent level of proficiency in terms of
vocabulary. Most of the respondents are considered to be under the Basic level of proficiency in
terms of Grammar, Reading Comprehension and in Speech.
In the light of the findings, the following are the conclusions: The students have Very
Satisfactory GWA, hence it can be concluded that they belong to average learners. It can also be
concluded that because college students prefer to read face book posts which, in observation, are
composed of grammatically incorrect sentences, affects their level of proficiency in some point.
The students have positive learning attitude which denotes that English Language proficiency
can be possibly reached as they can easily socialize and are fond to plunge in new experiences.
The students can be considered in the Level 2 English Language Proficiency level when based to
their minimal number of trainings.
It can hereby be concluded that none of the profile variables affects the level of English
proficiency of the students in all the areas.
