l☞ Where is are events happening? in a city, on a ship, on a farm, an imaginary
land, a majestic castle, a tiny house, another planet,
underground; in a gloomy
swamp, or a foggy moor.
➯ Setting creates the mood
or feeling of the story. It
makes us feel certain emotions as we read: joy,
fear, concern, comfort, optimistic, pessimistic,
calm, excited, curious.
➯ Setting is like an illustration without words; a picture in our minds
that we paint using our imagination.
Point of View: Who?
☞ Who is the narrator? Whose point of view are we reading? Sure, the author
wrote the story, but she is not necessarily telling
us the story, not narrating it. Characters talk
throughout the story, it’s called dialogue. Don’t
be fooled! Dialogue does not tell us point of view.
Then what does? Pronouns.
