Plot: What’s happening?
☞ What’s happening? The events of the story - the action? We can think of
plot as the author’s plan of events. There is logic to it; it happens in steps; we
can analyze it. A plot unfolds or develops on a narrative arc.
Narrative Arc
➯ Introduction or Exposition: we're introduced to
some or all of the characters; the setting is
described.
➯ Rising Action: the action gets intense;
characters develop and change; we begin to
understand the protagonist’s conflict.
➯ Climax or Turning Point: the action is intense, and
the protagonist’s conflict has become unbearable. So
he turns things around in order to resolve it. Climax
events can be very fast paced and confusing. That’s
OK! It’s part of the fun! Just keep reading!
