protagonist or main character. First person pronouns are the clues to look for:
I, me, my, our, us, we, myself, ourselves.
➯ Third Person: the narrator tells us a story about someone else. She is
not a character, does not participate in plot
events, and does not engage in dialogue. However, in her
role as narrator she speaks to us, the readers. Look
for third person pronouns: he, she, they, them, him,
her, his, hers, their, theirs.
Characters: Who? and What?
☞ Who are the people in the story? Characters in a story are just like us.
They have unique personalities, hopes, dreams, agendas, opinions, likes, dislikes,
families, friends, conflicts, and struggles.
➯ The protagonist(good character) or main
character is at the center of the plot. The plot of the story
unfolds or develops around him.
➯ The antagonist (evil character) is in some kind of
conflict with the protagonist. He may be a villain, or simply someone with a
different opinion or goal than the protagonist’s.
