                                   4. Purchase cf land by British Government.
                              The purchase of three large areas of land by the
                              British government fron the government of Bahrain

                              was completed at the 'beginning of the year,   This
                              transaction was complicated as the 3ahrain govern*8-
                              sent had to buy out the private owners of property
                              within the three areas and the time available for

                              settling the natter was very short,    The private
                              owners were paid more than the real value of their
                              properties and they were also given grants of land

                              in other areas by the Bahrain -overament.     It was
                              necessary to take this action \r\ order to prevent
                              a Huuoer of people considering that they had been
                              badly treated.
