                   2.5. Basil essential oil
                   (Aetheroleum basilici)

Basil essential oil reduces the inflammatory response to allergens. It supports adrenal
glands and by doing so regulates and improves some of your hormones. It has
antimicrobial properties and kills bacteria, yeast and mold which can lead to respiratory
damages, as proven by studies. So diffusing several drops into the air in any area of your
home where even a hint of those is felt is a good idea.
Hardships from overreactions to allergies can be prevented by adding an organic basil
plant you have homegrown for this purpose into soup while boiling, information from
chapter 5 of this book about the risks of using essential oils will prove you shouldn’t be
adding even a single drop of even “food-grade” basil essential oil into food, even
rarely. Use the plant itself for ingestion as you shouldn’t ever ingest any essential oils,
                   even dilutions.

Basil essential oil is recommended for topical applications to the chest and back of neck,

with a 2 to 3 drops dilution in coconut oil, to help the respiratory system against allergic
                   reactions or other issues.
A basil allergy is possible but very rare.

                   2.6. Pine essential oil
                   (Aetheroleum pini)

Gotten from pine needles and pine branches, this green oil has a great, strong pine scent.

It is one of the oldest essential oils to be used in aromatherapy. A very strong essential oil,
so be sure to dilute it before use. Applied diluted on the urogenital tract has a diuretic and

antibacterial effect. Used for treating the common cold, throat inflammations, coughing,
bronchitis and asthma with inhalation, and also washing out the throat.
It is known to break up mucus and remove it from the lungs, reduce possibility of sinus
infection, treat mouth and throat infections, and also help urogenital apparatus infections
and inflammations. It is found to be be antibacterial and antiviral and also has a lot of
                   health-enhancing anti-oxidants.

Also it can be used in producing perfumes. It is often an ingredient in skin cleaning
products. It is considered poisonous to ingest it.

Pines can cause allergies, but the cause of such allergies is mainly the pine nuts, so a
person allergic to those could be fine with the pine needle essential oil, it should be tested
                   carefully.
