                                           Vallejo Flood & Wastewater District
Director of Administration / Clerk of the Board
                                                Phone Screen Questions

                    General Questions
                    1. Why are you interested in the DOA opportunity with Vallejo Flood & Wastewater? Why are you actively
or passively looking for a new position?

It sounds like a fascinating position that goes to a lot of my training in serving legislators and administering
offices at different levels, whether it be a private sector at different levels, non-profits, and California
Legislator. I am actively looking for a new position because the Senator that I was working for was termed
                      out.

Left Washington DC 2.5 years ago. Has worked for two different politicians in ten years. Pervious to that
worked for another legislator in the communications office of the Senate.

This would give me an opportunity to get out of the political world of California that can be wearing and
                      costic.

                    Position Specific Questions

                    2. Please describe your highest level administrative support role to an Executive, Director, General
                      Manager and/or Board.

As I mentioned I was the General Manager of a private business, it was a family business, that was many
many years ago. The highest level I have achieved is Chief of Staff for a Congressman who worked for US
Congress. I administered all four of our offices, a $1.3m budget, everything from A to Z in administering
                      that office.

                    3. Please describe your supervisory experience and the most challenging human resources issue you have
                      addressed.

We had an office of fourteen staff members and over $1m budget. I was their direct supervisor. The staff
members were in district offices scattered. I had to fly back and forth and provide the human resources
aspect of those offices. That included mentoring individuals, training them, and providing the organization
the means to meet our goals and objectives.

The most challenging HR situation, I guess one of the more interesting ones, we had a female who had a
borderline sexual harassment complaint. I had to go in and diffuse that situation and had to make sure
that the staff member felt comfortable.

                    4. Please describe your experience in coordinating, tracking and reporting out on the implementation of
organizational goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
