                                         Vallejo Flood & Wastewater District
Director of Administration / Clerk of the Board
                                               Phone Screen Questions

          General Questions
          1. Why are you interested in the DOA opportunity with Vallejo Flood & Wastewater? Why are you
actively or passively looking for a new position?

I've been interested in the position for a number of years. I applied last time when Holly got the
position. I'm looking for the next step in my career. It was a position that felt good to me, is close to
my home, was an opportunity to work with the same board members that I've been working with.
Fast forward many years later, I took a position with the Contra Costa Transportation Authority. I'm
not actively looking, but when I saw the position come up, like I said it was something that I wanted
before. The only reason I would want to leave is because it's closer to home and it would give me the
opportunity for growth, and it provides many benefits for me professionally and personally, and that's
            pretty much it.

           Position Specific Questions
          2. Please describe your highest level administrative support role to an Executive, Director, General
            Manager and/or Board.

I worked in Public Works for four years. I supported the transportation superintendent, had some
involvement in working with elected officials, working with various boards. I was in that position from
2008 to 2012, from there I worked in the City Clerk's office. I worked with the City Clerk and the City
Manager on some assignments and I also worked directly with the seven Council members. Basically,
handled a very large array of duties in that office, even did some surveying on some of our
committees, sending stuff out to all of our committees at the City. In the last three years I have been
here in the Contra Costa Transportation Authority. I work as the executive assistant to the Executive
Director, I work for a board of 27 elected officials, 14 primary - eleven of them are elected officials but
don't have a vote. And then we have another 13 alternates who are all elected officials throughout
contra costa county. I also work as the facilities manager, the human resources manager, I work with
all of our directors, including two deputy directors. Help support all of them as well as projects,
construction and programming. I do work directly with all of the commissioners. I have the flexibility
to draft all of my own emails without review. And then I help to support all of the different directors. I
help to oversee all of the assistants as well.

          3. Please describe your supervisory experience and the most challenging human resources issue you
            have addressed.

Currently, as I just mentioned, I am the clerk of the board and I oversee the whole administrative staff.
Meet weekly with my three admin staff. I have three administrative assistants that I oversee. I have
