Search Committee
Long Beach Public Library
200 W. Broadway
Long Beach, CA 90802
Dear Members of the Search Committee,
I am excited to submit my application for the Automated Services Bureau Manager position. I have
had the privilege of serving as a Department Librarian II for four years at the Main Library. Managing
the Collection Services Department at Long Beach Public Library (LBPL) has given me ample
opportunity to connect, collaborate, and work closely with the Automated Services Department.
I have a strong background in technology. My academic focus was on information architecture,
website development, and user interface design. At LBPL, I managed the public computer center at
the Main Library, evaluated and tested a new time management system, conducted technology
training, and developed training materials. As a teen librarian at Anaheim Public Library, I
established and led the Library Web Development Team and designed and managed their teen
website. Currently, I am a member of the Technology Advisory Committee at Denver Public Library
(DPL). We evaluate new technology proposals, determine policies that affect customer experience
and make recommendations to the Executive Team on technology adoption.
Management is one of my strengths. I have a successful history of developing cross-functional
teams. I’ve implemented cross-training programs to expand skills, empower staff, and increase
retention. Cross-functional teams are flexible and able to serve multiple points of service, enhancing
customer experience at every interaction. For instance, I led a cross-departmental teammate at
LBPL to support daily operations of the Main Library, 11 branches, and a makerspace.
Since leaving Long Beach Public Library to support my spouse’s educational attainment, I find
myself continuously looking for opportunities to return to LBPL. With over 20 years serving the public
in various roles in the library system, I am uniquely positioned to meet the challenges of enhancing
public service through the use of technology innovation. It would be a privilege to serve as the new
Automatic Services Bureau Manager and support LBPL’s culture of innovation, public service, and
life-long learning.
Sincerely,
Hong Ha
