SUBJECT: Utilities Director
Dear Colleagues,
My 20 plus years diverse experience encompasses managerial as well as technical expertise; having worked
in the Public Sector Water Utility field and the Private Sector Engineering Consulting business. I am a
registered Professional Engineer and a licensed Class "A" Water Operator in several States.
I have also been in charge of directing large water resource planning, environmental projects and programs
throughout North America for a global consulting firm, and spent 15 years as a public water systems manager
in California, on the East Coast, and in the Midwest where I oversaw the largest membrane filtration plant in
the North America
Furthermore, I served on the AWWA Board of Directors and Executive Committee, led the Diversity/Members
Involvement and Young Professional initiatives, coordinated one of the most successful Water Utility
Management Institutes, and helped launch the International Council. I also worked for global private water
companies to improve their corporate efficiency strategies.
The following are some specific examples of my core competencies:
• Leadership – A water utility professional who effectively lead large and diverse organizations to
develop and achieve meaningful strategic goals and objectives. I lead by building consensus, relying
on high-performance teams. I also served on the AWWA Board of Directors and received the highest
industry recognition by my peers.
• Public Health and Environmental Stewardship – Championed the Mississippi River Defense
Network (Consortium of government agencies, businesses and community-based organizations)
dedicated to protecting the river from potential threatening contamination scenarios along with
enhancing the natural environment in the process.
• Management of People – I successfully managed organizational changes to become more efficient
and customer-focused. I enjoy mentoring the new generation of water professionals and coordinated
the National Water Utility Management Institute (one of only five in North America) at the University of
Minnesota for 10 years.
• Regulatory Experience – I oversaw the operations of complex and aging water systems for more than
twenty years without a single regulatory violation while meeting or surpassing increased customer
demands.
• Operational and Financial Management – I developed, balanced and effectively managed large O&M
and CIP budgets ($200M) utilizing advanced cost control measures.
